Hey, check out Chris Van Dusen's book, "Down to the Sea, with Mr. Magee." You can look it up on Amazon. It's published by Chronicle Books.

Chris is a Maine author/illustrator. He's done two books about this guy Mr. Magee....and his little dog, Dee....and he gives the characters a great funky retro look. In "Down to the Sea," Mr. Magee goes out for a boat ride. Check out his boat!

I recently contacted Chris to ask him a question about the book. We've had several notes back and forth. Seems like a great guy. He loves old boats and is at great risk of owning one one of these days.

Anyway, the big news is that Chris verified for me that the model for Magee's boat is a Crestliner! He saw one tied up to a dock somewhere downeast (Maine). Chris modified the paint scheme, somewhat. I almost painted my boat to mimic his, but chose to go with the original style.

He said it was "a 1959, minus the vent windows." I have a 1957 Voyager (with vent windows). I looked at the borchures on this site and it looks to me like the Voyager is the only model with vent windows, and that they stopped in 1958? Am I right?

Get his book. It's out in paperback, but, I suggest you get it in hardcover. My kids love it, and we read it over and over!
