Finally got around to hooking up the electric start on the Viking. LOVE it!
The 35hp Evinrude was just too much to pull over. It already had the starter, and the harness came with it. Just had to install the harness in the boat, and add a battery.

You'd think it would have been a couple hour job, but these boats are never that simple I guess. The boat had an old harness from a different motor going thru the sides, so I tied a rope to it, taped up that connection, and pulled it thru. All was good, until I started tying the rope to the new harness. Rope should have been about 100 feet longer. Embarassed Pulled it thru, into the side by accident. I ended up having to drill out ALL the top rivets of the interior panels on the left side. NOT cool. Evil or Very Mad

So, in other news....
I built a platform for the battery box. Used 3/4 plywood. Painted black (who knows why, you'll never see it), then coated it with spar varnish. Screwed that down to the raised ribs under the splash deck.
Thought I'd show off that part...

This motor does not have a generator/alternator, so I'll have to charge the battery. I have a battery tender, and it has a removable end on it with eye terminals. I attached them to the battery terminals, and feed the charge lead thru the top of the battery box lid.

So, now I'm truly a happy boater. Took it out last night for the first time with a starter. Feels so civilized not having to loose my breath and get all sweaty from pulling that beast.
Oh, I also installed a safety shutoff. Might be overkill since you sit so low in the boat - only way to "leave" the boat is by violent force from another boat, or hitting the ground at high speed. But there was a plate in the dash from an over heat light . The safety switch fit really good in there. It's now painted black.
