Nice, Merc's have timing belts? Sorry I didn't know, I'm an OMC guy.
Looks like you need a little weight up in the bow.
Not sure I like the idea of a timing belt |

This was the first test of this combo- I have since moved the fuel tank up under the (mid) deck. Not much I can do about my fat butt.
As I said this was the first time out; I've had it out once since & the motor is in desparate need of some love. It does not rev out as it should. As long as it sat, it's a testament to Mercury that it runs at all. It fires right up- hot or cold- & idles all day (!) it LOVES to idle.
This winter, I'll pull it apart for fresh rings, & a mag rebuild. This motor still has the factory seal- proving it's never been apart- 53yrs & STILL runs pretty decent. Cosmetic resto too. |

Nice combo! - with a Mercury like that, you may want to buy ear-plugs! Those Mark 30s are smooth runners when everything is working right.
-
Before you go to the trouble of putting in new rings, I'd run a compression check to see if they are really needed.
-
Most motors I've seen that don't "Rev out" all the way are running on one cylinder, and it's usually due to weak or no spark. Insulation breaking down on old spark plug wires or coils is very common. The guys at the antique outboard club board (www.aomci.org) say to take an old spark plug and bend out the gap to 1/4 inch and lay it on the engine block. You should be able to see the spark jump 1/4 inch in free air while not under compression.
-
In your list of things you did to it, I didn't see anything about the carb.
Motors that haven't been run for years are notorious for having gunk or bad gaskets, etc. in the carb, so that's another common place to look for problems. I'm assuming your remote throttle is adjusted right to open up the carb throttle plate all the way.

Here is some info on your motor that you probably already know:
