What did it cost?
My boat came with a new one and I was told it cost 40.00.

Sounds like you did OK.

I would have made one before I paid 40 bucks.

Dan at Crestliner told me they have been using this plug since at least 1957, this is the same plug they use in the 2011 Sportsman Series aluminum boats

Do the boats older than 57 use a diffrent Size? Havent paid much attention to the plug on my 55 buccaneer but it does look smaller than 1 inch?

I have read on here several references to a smaller plug for the Larson and crossover year

Evidently the early plug was 3/4". Measured across the thread it would probably be just under .750

Evidently that is what passed for 3/4" at the time.

Between the record keeping the wartime and post war business environment (don't waste anything and don't throw anything out) I guess we are lucky to know what we do about these old boats and motors.

What kind of serial number do you have on yours?

ED

X942 Have narrowed it down to a 54 or 55 Buccaneer.

Do your transom corners say Larson on them or just Crestliner?
Do you have a bow handle? These two things seem to be what put you before or after 1956.

Yep Larson Crestliner on the corners and on the one remaining emblem on the side and it has a bow handle. Also has Oak Gunnels which they discontinued with the 56 model year.

From what I have seen and read 1955 was the last year Oak gunnels were offered. 1956 was the first year for the center arched ribs and bow handles. However bow handles, decks, steering wheels and hardware as well as running lights, windshields and other items were offered as accessories during some of the years. So it is possible to have a boat that has been retrofitted with OEM hardware that was originally not available. Do any of your seats have backs on them?
