Yeah I only know of about 5 of these Commander12 550s that exist anywhere, but there are probably a lot more. If I didn't already have one like it, I'd take a look - it's in my area! The wood panels on the sides - inside the boat have been added. The seats look original. The bow light and the mount for the stern light are way newer, and the steering wheel is definitely not original....but hey .... who ever said that everything has to be done original?? Needs a windshield.

Price seems a bit high for the work it needs, but it says "Make Offer". For those that aren't familiar with this model, it was only made in 1957 and it has the same basic hull bottom as the 12' Jetstreak. It's rated for 30 HP on a 12'boat! I run 35 on mine.

My guess is that these didn't sell too well when new because in 1957, Johnson/Evinrude/Mercury all sold 35 HP motors, discontinuing the 30s they made in 1956.

You can add one more to your list Dave. Seats are not original mine had seats just like the brochure, green with white trim. Also came with original dash W/ glove box and windshield. It was my wife's grandfathers boat purchased new. They are a blast to drive. They turn on a dime and handle like a dream. Anyone thinking of getting a small pleasure boat, get that one, they are FUN!!! |
