That would be a cool boat to have, but beware of a couple things. The ad says it's 10 feet long....ya....uh huh!??...Hmmmmmm maybe it's been shortened by someone??!! Ya!

If it were a 1954, I believe it would have wooden gunnels. I'd say it's closer to 1957. And the "1956" motor is actually a 1958 - if it came new on the boat, maybe the boat is a '58 also.

| The motor is the 57 Javelin not the one from 58 called the Super Sea Horse. Same colors but not the same. The 56 Javelin was 30 HP and maroon in color with a really fancy chrome face plate. Not sure I like the plastic hoses used to replace the rubber dual line hose but what ever works in a storm hey? Doesn't have the wiring harness and solenoid box that the 57 would have. Looks like the wiring could be from a 56 electric start as it runs direct to the starter through the bottom cowl. Looks like seat brackets by the battery and fuel tank. New owner should reverse the bow light lenses also. None of this matters as the posting says sold. |

45 to 50 MPH ??!! with a 35 HP Johnson?....those of us who drove these kinds of boats back in the '50s and '60s know "this is possible" only because speedometers back then were notoriously innaccurate!
One day back then I had Dad's Voyager 14 with a 40 Johnson showing 33 MPH, and my friend, in a boat with a 75 Johnson, slowed to match my speed and said I was going 42 MPH! I was probably doing somewhere between 28 and 35.
I checked the OMC speedo in the Commander12 I have now with a GPS (actual year of speedometer is unknown, but it's newer than the boat) and it was reading about 4 MPH high. I may do the old trick of putting a small valve in the line to the pickup tube so I can "calibrate" the speedometer back down to match the GPS. This, of course, only works when speedos read too high.
