Original Commander 510 from 1959 Crestliner catalog  (lower left corner)

 July 11, 2002

Above are photos of a 12í 1959 Crestliner Commander Model 510. There were no model or serial numbers on the boat, so thanks to this website I know this information.

The boat was purchased from a classified newspaper ad that listed the boat as a Crestliner aluminum runabout, with no further information.. I purchased the boat on June 20, 2002 and plan to do some restoration work this coming fall and winter. But, I want to have some fun with it yet this summer.

The boat appears to have the original paint scheme although some of the white area on the sides has been repainted. The 1959 catalog indicates that this model was painted horizon blue and snow white and shows the same paint scheme as what is on this boat. Iím not sure if the blue on the boat is actually horizon blue as it differs from the catalog picture.

I would like to know if the wood dash is original, or if not what the original might have looked like. If you can help me with this Iíd appreciate an email. I donít think the windshield is original as it doesnít look like the one in the catalog.

I have a low hour 25HP Evinrude I wanted to try on this boat so I built a new transom to accommodate the long shaft motor. This is temporary for this season as Iíll be looking for a old motor later. The Evinrude looks too big for this boat (almost looks goofy) but this arrangement does work and this 25HP motor really makes the little boat scoot! At full throttle the boat does lean to the left a little, I suppose due to the prop rotation. I had it on the Chetek WI chain of lakes over the 4th weekend. It attracted quite a bit of attention and questions from several people that saw it.
