New Transom Material Original 15' Jetstreak from 1958 Crestliner Catalog

9/10/02

I purchased this boat from a gentleman in Atlanta as a 14 foot Jetstreak.  It wasn't until I tried to install a windshield for a 14 foot Jetstreak that I realized I really owned a 15 foot boat.  The number on the side of the boat (752), and the dimensions, confirmed the model.

I haven't done anything to the boat yet but I have a list of things to do starting with replacing the cracked transom.  I cut out some sheets of aluminum that I will sandwich around plywood to give it strength.  The trailer needs a lot of work but is worth rebuilding as it is a period Moody trailer.  I have been using a 1958 Mercury Mark 55 (40 hp) on the boat to date.  However, the boat is rated for 60 horsepower according to the 1958 Crestliner catalog.  I would like to find a nice Mark 75 motor.  I believe 60 hp would be real exciting (scary?) in this boat as it performs very well with the Mark 55.

The original owner was from Florida and he had a 12' Jetstreak as well (see attached picture - note the size difference between the 12' and 15' Jetstreak).  I don't know where the 12' boat is now but I bet it is not on Dave Roxin's list - yet.  The boat is in great original shape (fixtures, seats, controls etc).  However, the seats have been reupholstered and the inside and outside painted.  I wish the seats were the original black, white and silver but they look sharp and have several years of service left.  I plan to paint the interior with black fleck Zolatone and add a windshield.  I didn't like the black piece of carpet on the floor from an aesthetic standpoint but now I think I will keep it because it feels so much better than the bare aluminum.
