Attached are some photos of my 1955 Crestliner with 1961 Mercury 500.
The registration says it's a 1955 Crestliner, and it measures 15 1/2
feet from bow to transom. I bought the boat with the motor on it.
Must have been repowered at some point. I restored the Crestliner,
including removing the bad overpaint job some previous owner had done.
Originally, it was painted red on the decks, below the chine, with
silver in between. I had it stripped by an aircraft restorer
(MUY expensive!!) because the deck paint had already been removed,
and the hull very poorly repainted. Everyone likes it just plain
"nekkid" aluminum, so we've left it as is for now.
Ultimately though, it should be repainted I reckon.
I had vinyl laser cut Crestliner logos made the exact size of the
old screened logos, and they do look sharp. I carefully photographed
and measured the Crestliner decals aft near the transom before having
the hull stripped, then had laser cut vinyl "decals" made.
They look very professional and are the same colors (white and light
blue) as original but are not screened like the original logo.
The original was screened on, not a decal or sticker.
The registration numbers are also custom, gold with black bordering.
Anyway, it's my fishing boat, and it's fun. Older guys like
to gawk and reminisce at the boat ramp. I'd like to find a 1955
catalog to see what model my boat was called. *(According to
the 1957 catalog, the boat has been identified by Dave Roxin as a
Voyager).
Best regards,
Doug
