Dave Roxin( owner of a beautiful 12" Jetstreak) suggested you might want to post a few pics of my 1958 - 14" Jetstreak.  It originated from my pal Ross Pfund in Ada, Mn.,( Fall 2003)  and then along with the help of Dave( lots!!), and John Monahan and his restoration shop/museum in Little Falls, Mn ( and Ross of course), the project took off late Fall 2003, then hibernated through the long Winter ( other than some smaller inside projects) due to lack of an indoor facility.

I quickly started up this Spring with a mid to late July deadline.  I just made it in time for 10 days at a lake front rental cabin at the famed "Lake of The Woods" in Ontario, Canada.  I live in Winnipeg, Manitoba, about 120 miles West of there. Other than a little leakage at the base of the tailight bezels/fins, it ran better/drier than expected, and got lots of "rave reviews" from boat/non boat/car enthusists.  My speedo isn't hooked up yet, but Dave's estimate ( via e-mail) of just under 30mph, seemed to hold true.  Feels faster to me!!  At one time we clipped along well, and safely with 2 adults, 2 -13 year old boys,  our 6 year old daughter, and our mid sized Wheaton Terrier.!! Ha!!  Reverse in rough water, can be tricky though.  Overall, it handled really well in rough water with 2 adults. Most days were calm, so that helped.

I matched the two tone paint with a restored 1957 Johnson 35hp elect. start, and had the inside done in grey, textured with silica sand in between coats. The boat was stripped with sand, and walnut shells in the more delicate areas. There were quite a few upper deck holes in the aluminun to be filled ( 2 beer can holders punched into the front dash!!!), and a local company, Canstar Welding did a fine job at those, and also encased the transom bracket in aluminum.  Phase 2 autobody did the paint, my brother in law did the upholstery/seat frames, and I did most of the rest.

I don't have a hitch on my 1958 Pontiac, but felt it was worth a picture, so I kinda "staged" it.  Rocket/Jet theme ALL the way.  Those late 1950's were certainly "Space"
influenced.  I certainly am thankfull to Ross who sold me the boat, and all the help/advice, (parts from John Monahan)  and talented craftsmen who contributed to this project. It was lots of work,( I'm NO craftsman!!)  but the rewards of that was reflected in the smile our 13 year old son Devan, as he throttled that boat around the lake, and I was feeling proud of the time we spent working on it together, and smiling a bit myself.

I almost forgot I had this cool ( thanks to Ross ) rear view mirror for a boat ( was on my last boat, and it was not included with it in the sale, as neither was the space like bow light) that I had all intentions of putting on the dash of my Jetstreak, but the idea was lost in all the resto challenges, tight schedule etc.  It was displayed with my Delta rocket style bicycle lights downstairs, and it just kinda blended in.  While re-arranging stuff last night, I re-discovered it, and mounted it today.  What do you think??  If you don't like it, too bad, because it's on for good.  Ok, so I've got a little too much time on my hands!!
