Dear Crestliners:

My name is Ray Stockwell. I have been involved with Feather Craft boats of the 1940's and 1950's and other types of aluminum runabouts of that period. Lee Wangstad and I talk often as I have written features in this field.

I have limited myself in types and styles of boats due to the 10 hp limit on our 300-acre lake in western Missouri in Kansas City. I just purchased a 14' Jetstreak because of the style and weight. The plan is to see if this boat will plane with a 10 hp motor.
I'm sending pictures of the boat with a few questions.
  • Are these the correct front seats? They look close but no glove box on the back rest. The frame is tubular aluminum. I need to keep this boat light.
  • Do you know of a place for replacement glass (plastic) in the bow light?
  • The third question was answered by your website with decal information. Also looking for the windshield of a 15' Voyager with wing side windows and bimini top.
I'm also enclosing some information on Feather Craft for your reading. *

*the above files are readable but a bit fuzzy, I'll try to re-scan soon- PM

The boats that seem to work well with limited hp to date are the Lone Star 1958-59, Malibu, Texas Maid, Osprey, AlumiCraft 14' walk-thru and Feather Craft Ranger and Rocket. Of course, the 12' Jetstreak would work as well as the 12' Crestliner commander. The poorest is the Starcraft 14' SkiChamp. With its wood seat ftaming it's like putting a grand piano in a hog trough.

Of the plastic boats, my Falls Flyer runs great as well as the 14' Commando built in Tulsa of the 1950's. My Voyager just puts her head up and "struts" with a 15. Cadillac and Dura Craft are
too heavy as well.

Truly,

Ray Stockwell
