I have finally after many years completed my 58 Voyager, which is
powered by a 1959 35 HP Super SeaHorse Johnson outboard. I found this
boat motor and trailer in 1994, and my wife and I stripped it down
to bare metal, we refinished the seats and transom. I rebuilt the
motor, and we had to replace the lower unit I also added a generator
kit to the motor so I would have a recharging battery. The trailer
is a Tee Nee and it was stripped and rebuilt. Early on I was able
to get some help from one of the engineers from Crestliner who sent
me some great info on the Crestliners of the 1950s era. I was able
to make sure I restored it to original. As a side bar to re-doing
the boat I was also restoring a 1961 Willys Jeep Station Wagon. We
decided to match color schemes and the one photo is of both together.
Since completing the boat I was asked to show it last Jan. at the
Cincinnati Boat and Recreation Expo, which was a lot of fun. When
I show up at one of our local lakes with the jeep and boat it usually
takes me over an hour or so to launch because so many people just
love to look at the boat and jeep. I have to say that your web-page
has always been inspiring to me when I felt I had bitten off more
than I could chew or maybe the cost was to high. Anyway hope you enjoy
the photos and that if I can help anybody who is rebuilding a retro
feel free to have them contact me.
