Hi new guy here.
I am in the process of restoring a 64' Crestliner Del Rio, and I was wonder if anyone knows where I can find the plastic Crestliner emblem. One of mine is broke.
Thanks |

Don't know what kind of skills you have but you could take the original one, temporarily secure it to a baseboard like melamine, coat the emblem and baseboard with a silicone spray/release (so the next step of application of rubber won't stick to the emblem or board) , take 100% clear silicon caulk and spread it over the entire emblem about 1/4" thick and let cure for 48 hours. Pour plaster of paris over the silicone rubber mold to make a rigid "mother " mold to hold the flexible rubber in place when demolded. Once the plaster hardens, carefully pull off the plaster, then the silicone. You can turn the silicone open side up, drop it into the plaster shell, level it, and fill it with bondo or resin, once cured, paint it. Sounds like a lot of work but actual contact time for everything would be less than 2 hours, at most.
I used to teach mold making in sculpture classes and this is a quick, cheap and easy was to make a duplicate of simple reliefs, like the emblem you need two of. Who knows, if it works, you now have a mold to pull 20-30, if not more, emblems, selling them to others and making a little dough to pay for your restoration!!!! |

| The emblems are directional. So the new emblem I would have made would be backwards for the left side since it is a dupilate of the right side. The "C" is leading with the " restliner" trailing. Make sense? |

| Nevermind. I see you would have to use the backside of the one that was made. |

Thanks for the idea!
I have one emblem in decent shape. The other is broken. I have been looking for a source of new ones on the internet for a while now. Looks like I will have to make em' myself. I have started filling in the rivet holes and sanded everything smooth. Then I will cast the emblem using the above technique. I will make a few of them for anyone who needs them.
Here is what I am starting with:

Well, I decided to go a bit more high tech then silicone caulk. I pulled my first emblem this afternoon! They look pretty good right out of the mold, but with a bit of sanding will be perfect. All told I spent about $65 on supplies, and spent the afternoon working on it.
I can make plenty more with this mold. So anyone who would like a set of these exact replica emblems just send me an email.

I figured I would bump this up in case anyone is looking for a gift for their crestliner owning loved ones!
I have a small pile of these made up, all ready to go! |

What did you use instead of silicone caulk?
What are you making the actual part out of? Bondo like suggested originally?
I don't have a boat that uses these, but they really are cool. I'd be tempted to grab one from you just to hang in the shed. Maybe later down the road when money isn't so tight. |
I ended up buying a kit for the purpose. (http://www.smooth-on.com/Pourable-Silicone-/c1217/index.html)
The emblem is made of a two part resin again it comes in the kit. Works really well.
I will have the ability to make these well into the foreseeable future. Just let me know when you want one! |

Geekdriver,
Do you have a extra set that you are willing to sell? |
